In his efforts to stem the tide of insecurity in Uzo Uwani local government area, the Chairman Barrister Chijioke Ezugwu has flagged off the construction of a 65-kilometer farm access road, connecting Ukwuakpu, Ogborigbo, Mbataja, Ofia Nwagbada, Eterewe,Ogboda, Ogbakiri and Isi-Obinna farmlands.
Speaking at the flag off, the chairman said that the large expanse of Farms/forests which have become the den for kidnappers and other criminal hideouts would be converted to Clusters of Farm Estate.
He said that, the project which was The project, launched on May 17th ,2025 at a ceremony in Ukwuakpu near Uvuru and Ukpata communities, would facilitate farm access, enhance Agricultural marketing, and promote food security in Uzo Uwani and Enugu State in general.
Ezugwu emphasised the essential role of farm access road construction in his administration’s development agenda.
“These farm access roads are not just transport links; they are lifelines that connects our farmers, traders, and communities fostering economic growth and food security,” he said.
He assured the residents that the road projects would bring essential services closer to rural communities enhancing connectivity and enabling economies to thrive.
He further said that the construction of Command and Control Centre in Ukwuakpu was also part of his administration’s development agenda to curb insecurity along the road to the Council headquarters and neighbouring Communities.
“This project we are officially flagging off today is captured in our manifesto, entitled ‘the audacity of Vision.’
“We have come to fulfill that promise hence we are constructing command and control centre here at Ukwuakpu which is danger zone for road users.
“Before now, we had mounted DRS at the place, we’ll construct the centre where they’ll permanently stay.
“We are also going to dig water borehole there.
“I have issued a directive to contractors to commence work immediately.
“We are not resting on our oars, we won’t leave our place to the marauders. They have threatened to Kill me because I’m protecting my people but I know that God is above Man, ” Ezugwu said.
The chairman urged the benefiting communities to embrace and protect the project, emphasising community ownership.
