The Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rt. Rev. Samuel Ike, has urged governments at all levels to use the Easter celebration to contain the escalating insecurity across the state.
Ike made the call in his 2025 Easter Message message in Enugu.
He said those in leadership should used their mandate to ensure security of lives and property of citizens, noting that vices had been a perennial reoccurrence which had escalated in the last few months in the country.
The clergyman observed there were escalating insecurity and killings in Plateau, Benue, Ondo, Edo, Zamfara, Kastina and other part of the country with heart rending blood shedding, kidnappings, hate speeches and fallen price of crude oil and rising cost of living.
He charged the political leaders to emulate Jesus Christ who became servant leader through love for one another to the extent of watching his disciples feet as being demonstrated in the Holy Week.
While dissuading leaders from amassing wealth only to themselves, Ike admonished them not to serve as rulers but as people who were opportuned to make the lives of fellow Nigerians better.
He also called Nigerians to love one another and shun hatred for peace to reign in the country.
‘May this season of Easter remind us of selfless and sacrificial services at all level with humility, love for one another unconditionally.
“Let it give us sense of victory over challenges we face presently in our nation Nigeria and raise the country to new height,” Ike prayed.
