Abia Govt. assures new Golf Course of it’s support

Abia government has assured the Abia Classic Golf and Country Club, a new Golf club in there state of it’s support to establishment of it’s Golf Course in the state capital, Umuahia.

Abia Deputy Gov. Ikechukwu Emetu gave the assurance during the club a day, Maiden Golf Super Kitty Awareness and Tee-off on Saturday at the Aba Sports Club Golf Course section in Aba., Abia.

Emetu told the golfers that, the state government is open to welcome their offer to having the Golf Course in Umuahia.

He said, “This is what the government ably led by Gov. Alex Otti has always been encouraging in regards to Sports and Youths Development in the state.

“It is a welcome development to have this opportunity to be with the members of the Classic and Country ‘Club because, Golf Course will helps to take the idle mind away from pepetraring neferious activities.

“Abia will be hosting an international golf course first of it’s kind and this will help us in preparation, economy, hospitality and other positive things that associated with the game.

“I really have to thank the organisers of this programme and they should always make Abia their number one destination when it comes to the game of golf,”he said.

The chairman of the Board of Trustee for Abia Classic Golf and Country Club, Rev. Benson Ezem said the club is a new one that is coming up in the state.

Ezem pleaded the government to come to the clubs assistant by given them plots of land to build their Golf Course in Umuahia.

He said the course will trigger , hospitality, business, tourism and development in support of the governor vision in the state.

Benson who is also the promoter said he saw the event beyond been Abia golfers programme as golfers from other states are showing much interest.

Chief Jerry Kalu the chairman Local Organising Committee for the event said”the Abians that play golf decided to see ways and means and how we can have another golf course in Umuahia.

“Our intention is not only having a golf course in Umuahia but to have five star hotel and even estate that can as well generates funds for the club and the state.

“It is a plan we started a couple of months ago and decided to create the awareness today and we are thinking of making it regular or often event.

“We have 70 registered golfers for this maiden edition of the super kitty and we are going to play the complete 18 holds but our veterans at 70 yrs and above can play Nine holds,”Kalu said.
