As Boxing fans in Enugu State await the forthcoming South East Boxing Tournament, in memory of Late Osondu Ogbu, the organizer, Cordelia Ogbu says her husband was a passionate lover of boxing.
The one-day tournament is jointly being organised by the Osondu family and the Enugu State Boxing Association (ENSBA).
The late Osondu Ogbu was the Chairman of Enugu State Boxing Association (ENSBA), as well as the chairman of South East Boxing Association until his death.
In an interview with newsmen ahead of the bout coming up on Tuesday April 22, Ogbu said the only way to show honour and respect for the man, who gave everything for the sport, was to organize such a tournament.
She said: “It’s because my husband was so passionate about boxing and that is the only thing I can do to make him happy wherever he is because anything concerning boxing brings him joy. “
Mrs Ogbu, who is the current Chairperson of the Enugu State Boxing Association (ENSBA), the position her husband held until his death last year, said that the tournament would be an Annual event.
“God’s willing I will want it to be an annual event, ” she said.
She described the late Chief Ogbu as a loving husband and a philanthropist.
“My husband was a loving man ,a philanthropist, a loving husband and father to my children.
“Very hardworking, kind and caring and very passionate about the things he loved; I know his soul is at peace because he did great and kind things on earth, ” she said.
She urged boxing lovers in Enugu State and Southeast in general to come and watch boxing talents.
