The Nsukka Local Government Council of Enugu State says it has trained Four thousand teachers in Information Communication Technology (ICT) to enable them key into the digitalisation programmes of the state government.
The Council Chairman, Engineer Jude Asogwa disclosed this while speaking to Journalists in his office at the council headquarters, Nsukka.
He said that the idea to train the teachers was for them to key into Gov. Peter Mbah’s smart green schools which are due to commence full academic session in September 2025.
“We have trained Four thousand teachers in Nsukka local government, those that still have 20-years and above on ICT.
“The is meant to get them ready for smart green schools due to commence academic session in September this year, ” he said.
The chairman also said that the council had completed the Nsukka Tech-Hub with the view to keying into the vision of the state government on digital economy.
“Inline with the governor’s vision of digitalisation, we are currently training over 200 Nsukka youths on ICT at the Tech-Hub.
“The Tech-Hub is also being used as JAMB CBT center, ” Asogwa said.
The chairman added that inspite of challenges, that he inherited on assumption of office on Sept. 30, 2024, the administration was trying to touch each community in the local government with projects.
“On assumption of office, I invited the leadership of all the communities, Igwes and PGs, for a meeting and there we agreed that every community should submit three projects very dear to them and they have done that and we on it, ” he said.
According to him, the administration also set up a committee to identify abandoned government projects in all parts of the local government.
He said that so far, his administration had completed 1.6 kilometers road leading to Adada house in Nsukka urban, and also provided a 3kva rural electrification at Ibagwa Agu.
“At the same Ibagwa, an abandoned borehole has been reactivated, following the committee’s recommendations.
“Also, an abandoned borehole at Lejja community had been reactivated and fully functional to ease the hardship being faced by the people for drinking water.
” Still in Lejja, a 200KVA generator abandoned by past administrations is currently being reactivated, ” he said.
Asogwa further disclosed that his administration had procured three NIN registration machines to enable the people register for NIN free of charge.
“We noticed that our people paid as much as N4000 for NIN registration.
“We will deploy the machines and personnel to strategic areas for easy registration of NIN, ” he said.
According to him, the local government had also reintroduced sports programmes for the youths especially in football.
“Also, we are doing a lot in the area of Agriculture; we are presently creating agricultural cooperatives in each community to key into the farm estates being created by Governor Mbah.
“We believed that this will help to unbundle the farmers when the farm estates fully comes on stream, ” he said.
