Chief Chinedu Nnatu, Secretary- General of Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union (ECDU) has declared 19th September Thursday a mourning day i the community.
He said that its leadership on behalf of traditional Council and the President-General of the community took the decision to honour the victims of the attack.
Nnatu said that the decision was reached after wide consultations with its stakeholders to mourn their sons that were gruesomely murdered on 9th September 2024 at Agu Isionye Enugwu-Ukwu between Ifite Nawfia boundary Communities by Gunmen.
Nnatu made the disclosure in a press release on Tuesday made available to journalists in Enugwu-Ukwu community,Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra.
He urged all residents of the community to take part in the mourning exercise and noted that the community local Nkwo Market and shops in the locality are ordered to remain closed from morning hours till evening.
Nnatu said that symbolic flags may be used by individuals as a sign of mourning on the day under reference.
“With heavy hearts, and a deep sense of responsibility, the leadership of Enugwu-Ukwu Community has declared Thursday, September 19, 2024 as a mourning day.
“The day is to honor the victims recently killed in cold blood at Agu isionye, Enugwu Ukwu by Gunmen.
“On that day, the entire community and ECDU Branches within and outside the country will come together to pray for the repose of those souls that were killed.
“The Community will also pray and commiserate with all those who sustained injuries in the process of the attack.
“May God grant Enugwu -Ukwu Community, the strength to bear the loss and the grace not to retaliate but to endure.
“We take this opportunity to send condolences to the families of the victims, The Traditional Council, The ECDU Central Executives,The ECDU Branches”, Nnatu prayed.
Newsmen reports that Anambra police command had on September 9th informed the public of the killings that happened in Enugwu-Ukwu and Nawfia communities in NjikokaLocal Government Area of the state.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga ,Anambra Police Command spokesperson confirmed the incident and said that the command is on top of the case to unravel the mystery behind the killings.
